Greater Madison Tennis Association

GMTA is a non-profit organization promoting tennis in Madison for over 35 years.

About GMTA

The Greater Madison Tennis Association (GMTA) began over 50 years ago by adults who wanted to play tennis in the winter. Quickly the founders saw a greater cause: helping young people find and love tennis. It became a non-profit focused primarily on Junior Tennis. With multiple junior programs, our Summer Camp, and easy access to info on local public and private clubs, coaches, and camps, we hope to widen the tennis community.

Modest annual membership dues, Winter Adult Tennis Nights, and our Spring and Fall Round Robins support our cause. All revenue earned provides funds for coordinator & coach pay, administrative costs, insurance, website, marketing, clothing, equipment, and more. GMTA is managed by dedicated Board and Advisory Board Members - all volunteers generously giving of their time. Thank you for supporting our mission.

Getting started in playing tennis locally is easy in the Madison tennis community.  There are many players that would be most happy to assist you.  If you browse this website, you will find many email links to league coordinators, program directors, GMTA members and others that all stand ready to help get you oriented and involved in the local tennis community — Let's play tennis!

The GMTA Board of Directors are always anxious to help anyone interested in enjoying all that our tennis community has to offer.

How to Join USTA and Obtain a Rating

GMTA Players do NOT need to be members of the USTA. However, we do use the NTRP system to organize players on Tennis nights.

To play USTA Leagues, all players must be a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) - go to USTA website to join the USTA at wisconsin.usta.com. All players must have an NTRP rating. To find a team and/or determine what league(s) that you may enjoy participating in, you can contact one of the local USTA coordinators.
